The Krohn Conservatory in Cincinnati, Ohio—home to an astonishing variety of botanical species—has celebrated the beauty of butterflies through its annual Butterfly Exhibit since 1996. But the butterfly’s story begins much earlier, with roots that trace back over 100 million years. Evolving from moths, these creatures adapted to the nectar of blooming flowers, becoming symbols of change and grace across cultures.

In many traditions, butterflies represent personal transformation, the soul’s journey, and the beauty found in rebirth. They are signs of hope, of new beginnings, and sometimes, silent messages from the spirit realm.

This piece, Me Butterfly, was born from a sketch made 46 years ago. Inspired by a painting titled “Life,” which depicted a butterfly with the form of a woman, the work became a meditation on growth and feminine power.

Today, Me Butterfly emerges as a mirror glass creation—a visual ode to the individual who recognizes their inner beauty and dares to share it with the world. More than art, it is a reflection of becoming.
